New Contagious Variant of Covid-19 Spreads in California
California is the hub of the Covid-19 pandemic. With dining, gyms and most businesses closed cases of Covid-19 still continue to spread rapidly.
Officials in San Diego reported 32 new cases of the more contagious variant of Covid-19 in San Diego county as of Tuesday. This new variant was first discovered last month in the U.K. The U.K. is also a large hub of Covid-19 cases. The region entered into a tier 5 lockdown last week.
The new variant has been discovered in San Diego neighborhoods of Chula Vista, La Mesa and Lakeside. There also has been 2 new reported cases in Big Bear, California, a popular ski destination for those living in the Southwest.

Though the new variant of the virus is reportedly more contagious there isn’t any proof yet to determine whether the symptoms or overall virus experience is more severe.
Health officials across the country urge residents to maintain the same precautions. Wash your hands, wear face coverings, practice social distancing and try to visit essential businesses only when needed.
“Though L.A. County officials have yet to document the strain’s presence there, “having a virus that is able to infect more people more quickly than what we’re seeing today” is a “frightening thought,” county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Tuesday.”
Questions about the new vaccines that rolled out last month in regards to the new variant also surfaced. Dr. Neha Nanda believes the new vaccines will be able to treat the new Covid-19 variants. Data on new virus variants is very early and time will determine.
